Isaac Albéniz (1860-1909)

Asturias es una pieza con un relato intenso, cuando la escuché siendo niño quedé prendado. La guitarra, como muchas veces, se llega a desdoblar y parecer dos, las líneas melódicas vuelan en un diálogo poderoso. Asturias, esa región española de verdes praderas, fue donde se inició la llamada Reconquista en Covadonga, Asturias es bosques profundos y altos, exuberantes, acantilados que se bañan en el mar Cantábrico, en el Atlántico, ciudades de verdín y piedra, madera y hoguera.

Asturias is a piece with an intense narrative; when I first heard it as a kid I was hooked. The guitar, as often happens, appears at times to separate, or unfold, into two; their melodic lines fly into each other in powerful dialogue. Asturias, that Spanish region of green meadows, was the starting point for the so-called Reconquering of Covadonga, Asturias is deep, exuberant and tall forests, fjords that touch the Cantabrian Sea in the Atlantic, cities of moss and stone, wood and bonfire.
